Student Expectations:  Students are expected to come to class on time and be prepared

Parent Expectations:  Check and sign planner (we use as communication tool) weekly

  • Concepts to be learned:  This year we will be teaching concepts from the Common Core with all materials, completed homework, and a positive attitude! Students are also expected to check the class webpage daily and grades weekly.
  • Standards (used by majority of states).    For more information, go to http://www.corestandards.org/Math/Content/7/introduction
  • Evaluation:  Students will be evaluated by tests (50%), quizzes (30%), classwork/homework (10%) and quarterly finals (10%).  Projects will be taken as a quiz or test grade.  More details on the grading procedures are on the back of this

___________________________________________________________________________

  • NOTE:  ALL STUDENTS MUST PASS THE ARITHMETIC EXAM IN ONE PERIOD (45 MINUTES) WITH NO CALCULATOR IN ORDER TO GO TO 8TH GRADE MATH.  (Progress will be shown each quarter on the gradesheets)
  • Classwork/Homework - 10% of total grade.  Each student will receive a textbook that will include all classwork and homework.  The notebook will include all class activities such as bellwork, notes, and pictorials of concepts (called “My Ways”). Homework is expected to be completed on time and ready for review the day it is assigned.  Late work will not be accepted for daily credit, but should always be completed as it is necessary practice for mastery
  • Quizzes - 30% of the total grade.  Quizzes will be based on new material learned every lesson (may be open note).  Quizzes can be retaken on Thursday recess, or Tuesdays/Thursday after school from 2:50pm – 3:20pm.
  • Tests - 50% of the total grade.  Tests will be given at the end of each module, and will be based on homework, quizzes and practice tests.  Tests are closed-note, so studying for tests is essential!  A good idea is to create index study cards from practice problems in the
  • Quarterly Final - 10% of the total grade.  Quarterly finals will be given at the end of the  grading period and will include all material learned during the quarter, semester or year.
